Comment

The Coinage Act of 12 February, 1873, increased the standard weight of halves from 192 grains (12.44 grams, KM# 99) to a metric standard of 12½ grams (192.90 grains). The arrows were added to signify this change.

Interesting fact

The Seated Liberty Half Dollar, minted from 1873-1874, is interesting because it was the first coin to feature the motto "In God We Trust" on its reverse side. This motto was added to the coin in response to increased religious sentiment during the Civil War and has remained a fixture on many US coins ever since.
