Comment

In 1688 the price of the gold ant the silver increased by 20%. There was no time to collect and cast the circulating coin. Therefore, by the Law 04AUG1688, the value of the silver and gold coins was also increased 20%. However, during ~150 years the coinage remains unchanged with the circulating coins having a value ~20% above the mark.

Interesting fact

The ½ Cruzado/200 Réis coin from Portugal, minted during the reign of Pedro II (1683-1686), features a unique design element - the prince crown on the obverse side. This crown was added to the coin's design to signify Pedro II's status as the Prince of Portugal, as he was not yet the king at the time of the coin's minting. This feature makes the coin stand out from other coins of the same era and denomination, and it has become a sought-after collector's item among numismatists.
