The standard weight of these coins was 5/11 troy ounce (218.2 grains). Under the Coinage Act of 1946, the composition changed from .500 silver to .750 copper/.250 nickel but the weight remained unchanged.Interesting fact
The 1949-1952 ½ Crown coin was the first coin to feature the new portrait of King George VI, which was designed by sculptor Thomas Humphrey Paget. The portrait was updated to show the king's maturer appearance, as he had aged significantly since the previous portrait was created in the 1930s. This new design was used on all British coins from 1949 until the king's death in 1952.
