Comment

Balboa was a Spaniard and the first European to cross the Isthmus. He reached the Pacific by land and discovered the Perlas Archipelago in 1513.

Interesting fact

The 1907 ½ Centésimo coin from Panama was the first coin to feature the image of a local landmark, the Panama Canal, which was under construction at the time. The coin's design was created by the artist and engraver, Charles E. Barber, who was also responsible for designing several other coins for the United States and other countries. The inclusion of the Panama Canal on the coin was a nod to the country's rich history and its importance as a trade route, and it has since become a popular collector's item among numismatists.
