Comment
A very rare pattern with three known to exist (two in private hands). It is unknown if these coins were minted in Bombay (where all the other ¼ Anna coins of Edward VII were minted) or Calcutta (Where one is in a museum). This design was not put into circulation, with the government sticking with the previous design. The dimensions are based on other ¼ Annas of the time period as they were likely identical.
Interesting fact
The Bullock Plowing Pattern on the 1904 Pattern ¼ Anna coin was designed by the renowned British artist and sculptor, Edgar D. Bateman. Bateman was known for his work on various coins and medals, including the famous 1903 Edward VII Coronation Medal. The Bullock Plowing Pattern features a scene of an Indian farmer plowing a field with a pair of bullocks, and it was intended to symbolize India's agricultural industry and the country's rich cultural heritage.
